To
attend one of the most important Buddist ceremonies presided over by the
Dalai Lama at the foot of the Himalayas, two Western children, Just and
Marie, make their first journey to India to meet their young Tibetan friend
Kalou Rimpoche. Kalou Rimpoche is believed to be the reincarnation of
one of the leading Grand Masters of our times. The ceremony of the Kalachakra
enables Tibetans living in exile to remain in contact with their culture.
Over 400,000 people attend this event. They include famous Westerners
like Richard Gere who presents a film showing that the Western World is
becoming increasingly interested in Buddha's teachings. The three children
have formed a friendship which transcends language, beliefs and cultural
differences. As the ceremony, rich in colour and enlightenment, proceeds
the children discover more about each other and learn that differences
can be enriching. Before the children return to live out their own destinies,
their meeting with the Dalai Lama adds a solemn dimension to their first
Asian adventure.
