"I do not see why it should be thought unusual to risk your life to save whales.
Many people are ready to die for their convictions."

The career of Paul Watson started with a handful of militants when he founded Greenpeace with Bob Hunter.

In 1974, he set up his own "Sea Shepherd" conservation association specialising in commando operations. With 40,000 members, he acquired a fleet of ships including an old naval submarine.
He opposed the massacre of dolphins, whales and sharks with force, sometimes putting his own life in danger.

Result : a score of sunk or badly damaged whalers, miles of drift nets destroyed and thousands of seal furs of no use to furriers …
Hunted as a terrorist by the police forces of countries including Japan and the Faeroe islands, he is currently helping with policing national parks, particularly in the Galapagos islands.

Depending on who you are, Paul Watson is considered a pirate or a hero.
