| In
many regards, ant societies often appear to be a replica of human societies
on a reduced scale: "social organisation", hierarchy, specialisation
of tasks, inventiveness, adaptation, communication… Most often hardworking and diligent, ants can also be formidable warriors. Some carnivorous species – such as fire ants – devastate everything in their paths and pose real ecological problems in certain regions of the world. To such a point that researchers and scientists are now preparing a whole arsenal to combat these uncontrollable cuirassed cohorts: lethal lures based on pheromones, aerial attacks by phorid flies, etc.
However,
the art of war is not a characteristic of all ant species. Certain more
pacific civilisations have developed their gifts in other domains: architecture,
farming and breeding, weaving, etc.
